about

This song was first aired on my 'song a month' MySongLife' website in May 2011.
It's about family and generations. I had the idea for the song whist at a party in Totnes, Devon. There I saw the mother (Carolina - not real name) teach her daughter the dance moves to the Bangles song. I felt something profound was happening but I felt disconnected from it, not having had children myself. The song then turns to my own father, who loved dancing and could be seen in joyous rapture, whilst in his 60s, boogying to disco music at some family event or other. I may have felt embarrassed at the time but ultimately the song is about my love for him and Carolina's for her daughter.
